Jhaman Kundun, 32, from Guyana was awarded the BCPC Award.
The award is presented to the top postgraduate/masters student. Jhaman was awarded the Chevening Scholarship to study at Harper Adams University and has completed the MSc Integrated Pest Management programme.
Lecturer in Entomology, Dr Tom Pope said: “Throughout his time at Harper, Jhaman has been an excellent student, achieving consistently high results during the taught part of the course. “Jhaman’s research project investigated the olfactory responses of vine weevil, Otiorhynchus Sulcatus, adults to individual and blends of host-plants volatiles. “Jhaman’s work has made a substantial contribution to the development sustainable approached to the control of this pest.”
Jhaman said: “My future ambition is to conclude the Integrated Pest Management Masters and prepare to return home with the hope of finding a well-paid job. “I have an ambition to progress to a PhD and specialise in chemical ecology. My time at Harper has had extreme highs, in particular being awarded the prestigious Chevening Scholarship from the Chevening Secretariat Foreign and Commonwealth Office to study at Harper. To also the immense personal sacrifice of not being there for the birth of my son who I am yet to meet and hold.”
